Edinburgh International Festival Review of "Make a Movie Like Spike"

From The New Current: "Sitting in the Film House cinema’s cafe the director of “Make a Movie Like Spike” comes up to me and politely passes me a flyer for his movie and tells me I have to see it and that ‘he made the movie for us’. A bold statement I thought but going onto their website and twitter feed I started to see that the film was certainly worth Edinburgh Film Festival patron Robert Carlyle’s time and so would be certainly worth mine. Make a Movie Like Spike is high up there with Bombay Beach and Bleak Night and a film that truly captures the heart and soul of what the Edinburgh International Festival is all about, and is TNC’s Film of The Festival." More here. All public screenings os “Make a Movie Like Spike” are at Filmhouse 2 22nd @ 6pm & 23rd @ 3:45pm

Review of "Make a Movie Like Spike" from the Reelworld Film Festival in Toronto

"Make A Movie Like Spike", was featured at 2011 ReelWorld film festival in Toronto and my interest in watching this film was completely based on its title. Spike Lee, the infamous mascot of the New York Knickerbockers is just as equally well known for his film portrayals of the struggles of African Americans. Lee’s affluence and success has made him a role model for young aspiring filmmakers in the black community like Luis, from Los Angeles. Make A Movie Like Spike, is told through the camera of Luis who is creating a short film in the hopes of becoming like his idol. More here.

What they discovered were myriad worlds that challenged, excited and surprised. Their job to find the top films was certainly not an easy one, and reaching a unanimous vote was nearly impossible because the films truly affected them in many ways and heated debates were sparked because of the passion each felt for the stories that were revealed.
